Learning to focus less on dieting and more on overall health and wellness

wordpress help/therapy/ ramblings.

Hey lovelies! So….. WordPress is saying that I’ve met my quota with pictures and won’t let me upload any more. Hmmm….any wordpress users experience this before? Not sure where to go from here. They are advising that I delete some records but I really don’t want to erase old posts.

So Mimi and I had a session this morning and I told her all about my struggles following the three category rule. I said, “I can’t just have one cookie, one chip, and one piece of chocolate. That definitely leads to a binge.” She said “Yes.” Huh? She reminded me that the point of this is to not have to battle bingeing on those particular day of the week. To not feel restricted. When I’m at my internship on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday I should not be having an internal battle with the bins/binge. I should eat from any three categories I chose without guilt, without fighting, without shame. I should make sure to have a dinner that isn’t binge foods. The other days of the week I can do whatever I want. She reminded me that we are working with long-term goals in mind. I am struggling to accept that I can binge three days a week. I’ve been given permission. Mimi tells me that I don’t need permission to eat these foods and that I have choices to make. I am the only who puts the restrictions on myself and labels certain food as bad or good. The experiment will continue and I’m going to stop fighting it. She’s a professional. This is her job. I’m rolling with it. Β  The other piece of my homework is to think about the feelings that sort of sit with me on a daily basis. Not the feelings immediately before or after a binge, but the feelings that are more constant, be in loneliness, boredom, etc.

Ellie and I just took a nice long walk and she got to play with her bulldog boyfriend, George. They are so cute together. It took is 45 minutes to walk 1.15 miles. Jeez. The two of them just wouldn’t stop licking all up on each other. I finally got a good run in and recorded my fasted mile to date. Sweet! The weather is absolutely perfect outside so it made it much easier to workout. Β For brunch, I ate two pieces of that polenta Quiche. Tasted better cold.

Don’t forget to enter my Clif bar giveaway. Two winners will be picked Friday morning at 10 eastern time.

  1. How old is your blog? I am self hosted so I have never had that problem but I have heard of people hosting their photos on flickr but I am not sure how that works.

I agree with your therapist. For me, I had to binge in order to get over binging. All of those foods that had all that power over me had to lose their appeal. They only lose that appeal when you feel 100% free to eat them when, where and how much you want.

  3. Spring Break? Ick… way too early! You’d freeze your booty off anywhere you’d go!!!

Good luck with the category experiment- just keep thinking about how wonderful the end goal will be when you get there! πŸ™‚

  4. I host my pictures on tinypic, then upload them to my blog. Blogger is super slow uploading, so it’s actually faster for me.

I’d probably be wary of Mimi’s guidance as well if I were in your shoes, but like you said, she’s the professional! There must me a reason to her plan, so stick with it πŸ™‚

    Have a great day!

  5. i think this is a really good post for me to read right now…labeling things as good or bad automatically evoke emotions about eating or not eating them, and it’s usually guilt for me! if you don’t label things you’re automatically giving yourself the freedom to choose something BECAUSE YOU WANT TO and not based on a number or societal pressure. wheeeeeeeeeeee πŸ™‚

  6. I think you can buy more space through wordpress. It’s one of the upgrades they offer.

Congrats on the PR! So cute that Ellie has a boyfriend πŸ™‚

  7. Yikes, I don’t know what to tell you about your picture problem. I bet it’ll happen to me sometime soon, so please let us know what you end up doing.

I definitely think you should at least try what Mimi is saying for you to do. Couldn’t hurt to try? πŸ™‚

  8. WordPress only lets you upload a certain amount of pictures for free…after that you have to pay for extra space. Look on your account settings and it will who you what to do…hope this helps!

As for mimi…I think the theory is that no food is off limits and if you give yourself permission to “binge” then at some point it won’t be something you want to do. Because no food will be off limits you will be okay with eating just 1 cookie or 1 serving of chips because you know you are going to let yourself have those foods again. Make sense?

  9. Spring break already? wow!

I like Mimi’s thought process, no harm in rolling with it and seeing what happens! Though I’m sure it’s easier said than done, I know you can do it! πŸ™‚

  10. I agree with Mimi’s approach of having no foods off limits. That’s how I deal with food, too. I usually have treat in the house and having them here makes me have control over them instead of them having control over me. I know how much I like to eat of it, and when I want to indulge, I do! But it took me time to get to this point. This is a gradual process, so trust her, and most of all, trust yourself. You are beautiful, don’t yourself convince you otherwise!

  11. I would desperately want to eat any food that I put entirely off limits. YAY for spring break, jealous! πŸ™‚

You can use Flickr/any free website and use the URL to post the pictures with the most BASIC html EVER! If you need the code, let me know..I’m sure you’ve seen the img src thing πŸ™‚

  13. Do you use windows live writer? I THINK using it may keep the pictures from taking up storage space on wordpress…but I’m not certain about that.

  17. Hmm… I have no idea what you should do when you reach your limit. Maybe move over to self-hosted?

  18. I do completely understand the whole “labeling things as bad” idea and how it makes these off limits foods so powerful. But, unlabeling them is easier said than done. I seriously just started using butter in my cooking for the first time since I was in high school (oh 10 years ago) and it really is delish. Now that I get to use it in my cooking, things taste so much better!

  19. I would struggle with being “allowed” to binge too. Even if just from one “category.” I hope it starts to work for you!
