Jump, Jump!

Hey, hoo, hey, hoo. I went to a Kriss Kross concert in 8th grade and wore my pants backwards. True Story.

So…. I hopped on the scale this morning and didn’t even lose a full one pound?! What the freak. I know I haven’t drastically cut back over the last two weeks but I haven’t binged on sweets or eaten any sweets for that matter. This HAS to have decreased my calorie intake. I’ve also been doing boot camp. I really expected to lose. Mimi advised me not to step on the scale so I wouldn’t get disappointed but  I’m stubborn. I’m not so disappointed that I want to stuff my face with 10 whoopee pies but I am left wondering what to do next.

Thanks for all the Easter eating tips. I still haven’t picked a strategy. I got a lot of advice about not letting the candy have power over me. The truth is, it does. One bite and I’m done. I definitely plan to remember how much better I feel without the sugar with hopes that it will inspire me to back away. “Back away, not today, Disco Lady.” Who knows what that’s from?

Last night I had a glorious dinner with a friend I met in grad school. She’s someone I felt instantly comfortable with so we had great conversation. Remember on Valentines Day when Len and I went to Bella Luna for an early dinner? Well Mikaela lives in the area and had never been so we hit it up. The place was packed and the atmosphere was so funky.

I started off with a Cherry Wheat beer. If you like cherry and you like beer, this is a great choice. I LOVED it and wanted to drink 17 more.

Although the intention was to order a black bean and portobello burger, I was swayed by the creamy tomato and basil soup. One cup please!

After  I took that picture the waitress arrived with garlic knots. Bitch. I had two.

Then came the Silver Moon Salad– dried cranberries, croutons, gorgonzola and field greens. So good. I ate every last bite.

Len and I are headed to CT around 2 today so I must get moving. Lots of errands/work to do. Who’s avoiding taxes till the last minute?  I am!!

Need advice for good running shoes for peeps with wide feet. My booty camp leader called me out on how old and ridiculous mine sneaks are.  I’ve been sticking with Nike only because of the Nike Plus thing.

Ok not only do I have wide feet I also have pretty flat feet, I’ve tried Nike, New Balance and Reebok and I ALWAYS come back to Asics- they’re not under $100 but they really do last and feel amazing. These gel nimbus ones are the best. I’m on my 3rd pair. You’ll probably be amazed on how much better you can work out with a good pair of shoes on your feet, write the date in the tongue of your new pair so you know when it’s time to get new ones!

  2. oh, i wish i had good shoe advice, but i would just recommend going to a store in your area that specializes in running. that really helped me, and you get to try on a lot of running-specific shoes. LOVE the title of this post!

  4. Don’t be discouraged, Linds. You probably won’t see movement in the scale right now because you’re building up all those muscles in boot camp! Don’t despair, if you’re looking fabulous (which you are) and feeling good (which I hope you are), you’re doing something right!

    Also, re: running shoes: I used to be a slave to Nike, too, even though the narrowness of their shoes killed my feet, because I love the Nikeplus and it really helped with my training, BUT, I have good news! They make this little shoelace pods now that you can put your chip in and calibrate to be just as accurate in your shoes, so now we can buy any shoe that fits our feet and still use the NikePlus site! Woot!
    I recommend going to a running store (boston has so many!) and have them measure your gait and stepping style before you buy… if you’re going to spend a fortune on shoes anyway, why not make sure they’re the best for your tootsies. 🙂

  5. I’m an Asics fan. I’ve been wearing them for 8 years. I switched to Nike once and they killed my feet.
    Sorry about the weigh in. You said you ate a lot of cheese so maybe that’s why? At least you got a lot of calcium!

  6. Hey girly…I wear Kswiss and LOVE them but you have to order them from their website. But they fit true to size and I have never had a blister from them…not even on a 10 miler straight from the box! I can’t wear Nikes because they are too narrow for me! 🙂

    Don’t worry about the number on the scale and just focus on how beautiful you are! Gosh…I wish you saw yourself through my eyes!

  7. Hopefully you and Mimi can come up with a plan of action for Easter. I’ve never struggled with it the way you do, but I know how much harder it becomes to resist once you’ve had a bite. I’ll never comprehend people who can stop with just a taste of dessert- if I start it, I’m finishing it!

    I’d go to a running store and get your shoes fitted, even if you’re not using them primarily for running. The salespeople there are far better trained than your average Foot Locker employee!

  9. That salad looks awesome! To be honest, I think craisins can make almost any salad taste good.

    I think the reason you didn’t lose any weight is because you’ve been making up for the lack of sweets by eating breads, cheeses, etc. in a higher quantity. Those things can be just as caloric as sweets if you aren’t careful.

  10. I have Asics and use Nike + too so I have a little pouch that I attach to my sneakers.

    Sweets have alway been one of my weaknesses too…I always tell myself that I will just one but one turns into two and then three and so on and so on lol

  12. That salad looks bomb. And I loved Criss Cross when I was younger, so I’m jealous of you!

    Brooks, New Balance and Pearlizumi shoes tend to run a little wider than most shoes. Asics and Mizuno tend to run a bit more narrow and Nike is pretty average. Hope that helps!

  13. Don’t worry, honestly!! Goddamn scales. An example of how screwed up the scale is: On Sunday, I weighed X. On Wednesday, I was more than TWO POUNDS lighter. And I typically lose half a pound during exercise (water weight I know).

    It’s so hard, but I felt so much better when I stopped weighing myself so much. That one stupid number would determine my mood for the day. Even if I had been feeling good about my body, clothes fitting, etc., if I’d gained, that would go out the window!

  14. I love Asics. I love them a lot!
    Ah I hate scales. Scales tell you a number that means…well, it means nothing. It doesn’t tell you if you have gotten stronger or healthier. It discourages you. Being healthier isn’t about losing weight. You are actually at a very healthy weight. And now you are getting back into awesome shape. So that is an awesome thing.
    When I started therapy the last time, my boyfriend hid the scale. I still knew where it was, and I still know where it is, but I just stopped weighing myself. How you feel about your body should never be affected by the number that looks up at you.
    But you know all of this already. Doesn’t hurt to hear it again, right? Hang in there!

  15. I totally saw Kris Kross back in the day too! So funny! Now I’m going to have that song stuck in my head! 🙂

    You’re probably gaining muscle from boot camp, which weighs more than muscle. How do you feel in your clothes? Do they feel a little looser? That’s how I judge it. I try not to get on a scale.

  16. Hey girl! You know how I feel about weighing yourself. If I get on the scale it’s usually 6 or 8 weeks from the last time. I think weighing yourself often can hold you back. Also you didn’t gain so that is a plus 🙂

  18. OMG… forgot all about “back away, not today, disco lady” you have the best memory.

    Go with Asics – they are a little pricey but completely worth it. Being I worked in a sporting good store I can tell you that professionally and they are all I wear!!
