Learning to focus less on dieting and more on overall health and wellness

Yesterday..

yesterday was one of those days. You know those days when irritation gets the best of you and you can’t be bothered to see or talk to anyone. The kind of day when you shouldn’t get behind the wheel because it might just feel really good to ram an idiotic driver or run over a biker? Okay, I’m not that out of control but you get the idea. (Lord- I was only kidding. Hitting a biker would not give me any pleasure whatsoever.)Anyways, it was that kind of day so I isolated myself and missed out on my friends b-day party. (Sorry Mikaela.) What I should have done was strap on my sneaks and hit the pavement. Exercise IS my prozac and had I worked out, I would have felt so much better. Period.

Today started off better when I hit my first Body Pump class. Call me pathetic but I had never so much as picked up a barbell until today. The class was AWESOME and it’s the perfect way to get my strength training in. I mostly used 10-15 pounds (total) throughout the entire class and my arms were shaking at points. Barbells make me feel like a total bad ass. The class was packed and the teacher came straight from the set of Rent. (I’ve actually never seen Rent but I imagine he’d be the leading star.) He was so theatrical, passionate and full of body pump energy.

My friends and I are hitting up Toy Story 3 at Imax today because that’s what you do when you’re unemployed. I’m really looking forward to spending time with the ladies but job searching should be my top priority. Sigh.

Totally off topic but I need tips to lose belly fat… any suggestions? And honestly, what the hell is up with cellulite? Cellulite= Dimples of the devil.

A way to lose body fat: DO LOTS OF AB TRAINING (crunches!) Then the fattiness will turn into muscles 🙂 I’m working on mine!

  6. I love Rent, it’s the best thing ever! Umm the only tip I ever get about belly fat is to loose the booze, but that’s just no fun.

  7. Haha, like Anna said, when you figure out how to lose body fat and cellulite, let me know! 😉 The only thing I know of that helps is drinking lots of water and upping the cardio.

  10. Wind sprints work really well for belly fat, and running in general is good– it has to do with the way you hold your stomach while running. I have no idea why sprints work so well, but they definitely do. Also, good posture and holding your stomach in will train your abs (and thus make your belly appear flatter).

  11. Man, job searching… try doing it from a foreign country & adding to the end of your cover letters: FYI, I’ll be back in the states for an interview come August. Sigh. 🙂

  13. Sorry to hear yesterday wasn’t good for you, but I’m glad you turned today around!

Unfortunately, belly fat is usually pretty genetic. The only way to “lose fat” is to lose weight, but you might just end up with skinnier arms and legs! I’m an apple shape, and I think I’ve just accepted that no amount of crunches will ever give me Marisa Miller’s stomach.

Hope your day is going great!

  14. ^Gabriela is right. And, if you do lots of crunches but don’t really lose body fat overall, you might actually look like you have a bigger stomach – because all the muscle is hiding underneath a layer of fat.

WHY CAN’T WE SPOT REDUCE. Goddamn.

  15. Gosh, if I could skip the ever addicting Zumab, I’d go to Body Pump. I need some more iron in my life. I wanna try this. maybe next month I can.

  17. Try using a solar belt that helps make that area sweat more when you‘re working out (and I don‘t mean one of those belts that “do the sit-ups“ for you, I mean a sweat belt for your stomach)…usually speaking we are supposed to have a little body fat there, we are women, we are supposed to carry children, so there is the first problem…second sometimes it is hereditary, but you can still be kept under control…also it’s our diets, your glycemic index may be high with what you are eating…it takes a lot of work to get your belly flat, a million crunches won’t do it either. It’s definitely a combination of exercise and diet and a frustrating task to defeat! But maybe wearing a solar belt down there will help you sweat a little more than usual and help the process a bit!
