Eat it and weep

Yo bitches and bastards (that saying will never get old so get used to it.)

It’s the 3rd straight day of rain in Boston and I must admit, I kind of dig it. The hardest part about rain is that it puts a damper on exercising for both me and Eleanor since we both enjoy being outside. I sucked it up yesterday morning and ran five miles but my will power can only last so long. There might be a gym visit later today but I can’t guarantee anything.

I  bought a few things from Trader Joes that have been a staple in my diet the last three days: basil, tomato paste, and the most amazing mozzarella ever known to man. Let’s talk basil. I bought a plant because it was actually cheaper than a packet of fresh herbs. Never in my life have I owned a plant–edible or not. It makes my kitchen look so different! Who knew what a little green could do. It’s so cool being able to pluck some leaves of and add them straight to your meal.

Moving on to the tomato paste. To be honest, I’m willing to bet that there’s not one person in the world who loves ketchup more than me. If I could, and I have, I’d put ketchup on everything. Since it’s so high in sugar and a pretty much a crappy condiment, I’ve been opting for tomato paste. The man at TJ’S said the kind they carried was so good, he eats it straight out of the jar. Homeboy wasn’t lying.

Last but far from least– mozzarella. Much like provolone, I find mozzarella to be quite boring so I typically prefer something smelly and powerful like blue cheese. Well, stank cheese, this mozz is giving you a run for the money. Trader Joe’s brand is ridiculously creamy and delectable and is made with vegetable rennet. Saweeet!

Breakfast was 2 slices of Ezekiel bread topped with hummus, tomato paste, basil and mozz then baked to perfection.

This meal NEVER gets old

Here’s some irony for you. I put Ellie’s coat on her because it was pouring rain but she needed to poop. Within seconds of being outside she ran straight for the mini lake puddle to splash around and was soaked/muddy instantly. Maybe clothing isn’t meant for canines after all.

  3. The cost of fresh herbs is out of control! I kept saying I was going to buy a few plants this year, but never did. Next year I really really mean it!

  4. Tomato, basil, and fresh mozz is one of my favorite combos. Not better than chocolate and peanut butter, but pretty damn amazing! I was making sandwiches for awhile, but my basil plant is leafless, so I’ve been missing it.

  6. I am obsessed with tomato, mozz basil right now. I can not get enough! I bought a basil plant from TJ’s too! I figured even if it dies, it’s still cheaper than buying the packaged basil.
