Learning to focus less on dieting and more on overall health and wellness

Blogging from New Hampshire.

Hi lovelies!

I’m sitting at a quaint coffee shop in New Hampshire using their internet with an everything bagel in hand and a pumpkin spice coffee. Does it get any better? I think not. Len and I drove up yesterday to spend a few days in the woods. We try to make it up here several times per year because it’s so peaceful and quiet. We’re both country people at heart so getting out of the city is imperative to feel more centered and balance.

We also came in celebration of Lens birthday. He turned 32 yesterday. Old dog. I love being able to celebrate another birthday with him; watching him get older and older, wrinkly and wrinklier. Next year I’ll buy him Viagra. Totally kidding.

After arriving, we broke open two of our  favorite beers and opened presents. Every time I bought Len a present, I bought one for myself. He got slippers, I got slippers. He got a book, I got a book. He got art for his office….. well, it had to end somewhere. Still, I made out like a bandit.

Shipyard Pumpkin Head and Magic Hat #9

My new slippers from Target can be worn 3 different ways. And yes, my legs are THAT white and dry.

Lennsters parents  took us out to an awesome Italian meal down the street. I got the Vegetable Italian Pie- whole wheat noodles with vegetables and red sauce, covered in ricotta and baked. The serving was ENORMOUS and will provide leftovers for today (and tomorrow and the next day). So good. After dinner we made a camp fire and ate cake. A lifestyle fit for a Queen.

Thanks Bernie and MaryAnn.

Birthday boy!

My monster dish.

Our plans for the day include more relaxing, hiking and mountain biking. I’m a little nervous to bike because the other day I took a digger while riding along the Boston bike path. Please note- the bike path is flat and paved yet I still managed to fall off. Flat on my chin. All I could think about was my lack of health insurance. Medical bills are NOT in my budget. That’s for sure.

I'm well aware that I look like a creep in this picture. Thank for noticing.

And I’m off! Happy Thursday.

  3. Hmm, I think I like this gift giving idea – think it applies for a bridal shower gift? That’s what I need to shop for today :-P.

I went a few months w/out health insurance after graduating from college and go figure, the one time I needed to go to the hospital in 8 years was during that time period. Boo!

  10. Haha, I love that you bought presents for yourself too! I need to start making that a rule for when I have to get someone a present.

You know, you have some serious skills for being able to fly off a bike just because. I have those skills too – I trip on flat pavement.

  11. Fun birthday celebration. He looks like a happy ol’ dog. Where was Eleanor in all of this? Did she get a birthday bone? I heart New Hampshire and the pumpkin ale made me happy. Fall is here!

  13. LP! Congrat-u-frekkin’-lations! Glad you got a kick ass job. Hopefully you’ll be making bank so you can buy me a shipyard when I come into town, hahah. Oh yeah 1st week in December it’s on like donkey kong. I’m gonna get extra tan to show you that the whiteboyness was just a Boston thing (the dockers and the sweaters at TBC didn’t help either). Keep on kicking ass.
