Goodies Galore

Learning to focus less on dieting and more on overall health and wellness

Hi! If you’ve read my blog before you know the kind of topics I cover. My life is changing so I don’t want to label this blog as one thing or another. Goodies Galore will simply serve as a vehicle for inappropriate ramblings, pictures of my gnarly food concoctions, the ongoing battle and rewards of health and wellness, and whatever else comes my way. Hopefully things get exciting around here. Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Lindsay! I read your sister’s blog. I noticed that you are an aspiring food blogger. I, myself, am addicted to food blogs! Here are a few of my favorites, so you can get some ideas.

    Happy blogging!

  4. Hey Lindasy-
This blog is great! I am a fan of Pampered with Paige and found your blog through your sis. I am also a grad student ( currently) and I also suffer with binge eating. I think that for me, school makes it harder for me to eat healthy. But I am determined; and I know that you too can accomplish what you want! Good Luck to you!

    • Thanks for reading Barbara!! Where are you going to graduate school? It is definitely stressful and I can see how is exacerbates the bingeing problem. PLease keep me in the loop if you find ways to handle the emotional eating. Good luck!

  5. Hi Lindsay,

I really enjoy your blog…thanks for being so honest…I’m going to run the Chicago half marathon in Sept 2010 (my first half, I’ve only run 5K’s so far) just wondering what you do to train for your marathons.

thanks again for the honesty in your blog…I too love food, and have my bad days, so it’s nice to know I’m not alone in the day to day struggle to stay healthy!

Good luck with your training =)

    • Hey Salina,
Thanks for reading the blog! Congrats for signing up for the half; you’ll love it. Well, for the half marathon that I’m running next week I def. have not trained properly for. But for the marathon and half marathon I ran last year I followed this approach– Run a few days during the week and one long run on the weekend. Each weekend add a mile to your long run until you reach the highest mileage you want to go. For the marathon we ran up to 20 miles before tapering. for the half, we ran up to 11 miles before tapering. There are some great plans on runnerworld, cool runnings or hal higdon websites. Many plans have terms and names for their runs like “tempo run”. I never did that. I just ran the miles and didn’t care about speed or anything. Just distance. Do you have a parter?
I did a post earlier this week called “My experience as a runner.” Scroll back through the pages to find it, it might be helpful. Definitely be prepared with GU or something along those lines. If I am running anything more than 7 miles I eat it during the run. Hope this helps! Good luck and enjoy it.

  6. Hi Lindsay,

I just have a quick question for you….I’m starting to run outside more and will be doing some 5K’s and 10K’s this winter, I’m just wondering what you wear when you run…something to keep you warm, but also keep you dry if you sweat….thanks!!!

    Comment by Salina | November 23, 2009 | Reply

    • Hey Salina,
The key is to get moisture wicking shirts. You should stock up at TJ Max or Marhalls. The tag will say wicking. Typically I will wear running pants that fall at mid-calve, a short sleeve wicking shirt, a long sleeve wicking shirt and a fleece if its REALLY cold. You’ll warm up fast so there’s no need to really bundle. Buy some running gloves and a hat too, a hat makes all the difference. I think it’s wonderful that you’re planning to run in races. I wish we lived closer and we could do it together! Wait, where do you live?? Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

      • Thanks Lindsay….I’m having a hard time getting my butt outside to run, so I thought maybe a new running outfit would help =) I’m so used to running on the treadmill that I am VERY intimidated about running outside, but I know I need to in order to train for my half in September….I’m already starting to freak out about the half and it’s still over 250 days away….yes I have issues =) None of my friends run so YES it would be nice to live closer to each other….I need some motivation to get outside….oh I live in PA =)

Hey have you ever heard of the USMC Mud Run….I did it last year in South Carolina, and I am doing it again in Sept 2010 (I actually think it’s the weekend after the half)… might be something you would like doing….it’s very challenging, SOOO fun and very rewarding…..okay I guess I’ve gone on long enough….sorry!!

Have a fabulous Thanksgiving and enjoy the time with your family and friends!!

p.s. good job on picking a healthy snack from the bins =)

        Comment by Salina | November 23, 2009 | Reply

        • That race looks really fun and dirty! I can understand having a tough time getting motivated to run outside. However, you are already at an advantage. Running on the tread mill is so much more tedious that running outside. You can make outside more enjoyable with music or by downloading a book on tape to keep your mind busy. I’m sure there are also running clubs you can join around your area if you’re looking for partners to run with. I’ve thought about that option but haven’t yet taken the step.
You have so much time before the race and already have a solid routine down. You’ll be fine! If you can rock out miles on the t.mill–you’re all set for outside.

  17. Hi Lindsay,

You’re MIA?! I feel like I should have emailed you prior to this…I found your blog maybe over a year ago. Stumbled onto it from another foodie blog. I feel like I found my long lost sister. I have struggled with food my whole life. I can totally related to everything you blog about. You make me laugh and give me encouragment that I am not the only one that thinks the way I think. I swear some of the things you say…was exactly what I was thinking…sometimes I want to say to you…”Get outta my head’! I am also a Ketchup addict. The weirdest thing I eat ketchup on is popcorn. Dip air popped popcorn in ketchup and a little deli mustard and I swear it tastes like a hot dog…don’t ask me why…just take my word on it! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know you are missed and appreciated that you let us into your life. I hope you return to blogging!

    • Wow, you just made my night. I’m coming back, I swear! Thank you for such a lovely comment. Love the popcorn idea but it sounds like a ton of work!! Maybe it’s more efficient to pour the ketchup/mustard right on top.
